Due to poor school attendance, lack of the development of potential at opportune times in a child's life or limited opportunities or ability, many young people will simply never achieve a formal qualification. The youth in poor communities are finding it extremely difficult to acquire skills after completing school and gain access in the job market. The Emdeni Skills Development was started in 2010 to present opportunities to the youth to develop themselves through skills training in order to enter the mainstream economy by becoming employed or starting their own business. Very basic skills training is provided as a new service, still in its development phase, at the new Emdeni Skills Development Centre. Currently courses offered include vegetable cultivation in tunnels, basic computer skills and cooking and catering. Together with these courses we also offer life skills and small business management training. More training areas are being developed for the future. A help desk is also available where people from the community can be assisted with Internet, ID applications, CV's, photocopying, etc. |
