You supported Abraham Kriel Childcare before and we acknowledge your goodwill and generosity in the past. We take the liberty to send you this e-mail to share our current financial situation, because we know that you care about children in need. By the end of October 2011 we already faced an alarming shortfall of R 2.6 million. This is due to a dramatic and ongoing decrease in donations since April 2011, as a result of current market conditions. Our income from the corporate sector has been particularly hard hit. We have implemented severe discipline on expenditure and still managed to serve the 1 000+ children and youth in our care thanks to reserves built up in 2010. Be assured that the children will be cared for the festive season with Christmas gifts already donated. Abraham Kriel Childcare still makes the difference you wish to see by developing children so that they can become balanced adults that will contribute to the future of our country. We do this for abused, abandoned and orphaned children, hungry for food, love and knowledge. The cash flow situation from January 2012 onwards is a serious concern though. We urgently appeal to our donors to help us face this challenge! Companies can benefit significantly on their B-BBEE scorecards and we also offer a Tax benefit for donations. In the spirit of Christmas we wish to ask: "Please share this plea with one or two like-minded friends and colleagues, as we desperately need all the financial assistance we can find." We believe that together we can turn this around and hopefully our next e-mail in 2012 will only be to share our blessings with you!

No doll, toy car, action hero, I-pod, CD or cell phone gift can quite compensate for the absence of loved ones. That is why the people our children spend their time with must have earned the love and trust of the children around them. Their presence must compensate for the mother who never comes or the father they don't know.

For the children at AKC, the childcare workers and staff are their family. For this reason, we encourage you to embrace a child all year round by sponsoring a mother or father for one day every week. You can be the Monday Mom or the Weekend Dad for a child by donating R60 per month towards their care.
